Keynote: The Power of Automation Platforms
Pat McGrew, Senior Director, Keypoint Intelligence, InfoTrends Production Workflow Service
Automation is powerful. It minimizes touchpoints and helps drive toward operational excellence, auditability, and expansion. Automation does not happen in a vacuum, however. Automation projects can become massive, and leave unintended consequences in their wake. Not only disconnected islands of automation, but mismatched databases, inconsistent data rationalization, and bottlenecks in both eDelivery and hardcopy production. There is a path forward to help resolve the list of evolving consequences. It does mean one more project, but it is one that sets the stage for the lynchpin that makes automation work today and tomorrow – a platform. Automation Platforms will be the story for the next 5 years as production operators look for ways to integrate tools from multiple vendors without the need to re-engineer their workflows. And the good news is that you are exceptionally well positioned to take advantage of the platform-based future.
Take Away:
- Automation has many meanings, so start by understanding where you are on the Automation Scale
- Platforms are the future – and you may already have one!
- Building your platform for the future involves assessment and integration

Keynote: 5 News Flashes You Can Use from the Automation Trenches
Pat McGrew, Senior Director, Keypoint Intelligence, InfoTrends Production Workflow Service
In 2018 we looked at the workflow revolution, concluding that Smart Print Manufacturing is an aspirational path, but still not in everyone’s five-year plan. Automation is assumed for many processes, but there are still many islands linked by automation potholes that need attention. Based on the most recent Keypoint Intelligence research from both the workflow and customer communication services, as well as emerging evidence that platform-based automation is gaining steam, here are the five things you must work on this year to ensure that you are positioned for operational efficiency.

- Evaluating platforms to create more efficiency
- Filling in potholes in superstructure

Keynote: The Unofficial Leader
Tim Cooper, Chief Architect, NCP Solutions, an OSG Company
Much has been written on leadership. Many people aspire to grow into recognized leadership roles within your organization. However, there are a few people within your organization that may never aspire to be an official leader; yet carry more influence than many recognized leaders. This discussion will center on identifying, understanding and making the most of the “unofficial” leaders within your organizations. They may be the most key person you have when attempting to implement any significant change.
